La Valentina North, 1 block from a light-rail station on a small in-fill lot, will provide 18 units of affordable family housing when completed. The project exemplifies "smart growth" not only as "transit oriented design" but with cutting edge energy design to achieve an 80% level of energy independence. Promoted by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District as a model project, the buildings incorporate a highly efficient envelope and roof-top photo-voltaics. The three-story buildings surround a central court and lively traditional forms link the project with the historic context of the existing neighborhood.
